LFA, is that you? Lexus' electric future is well underway and flanked by a new sports model

Since introducing the RX 400h in 2005, Lexus has been a leading pioneer in vehicle electrification technology, playing a leading role in offering products that possess both performance and environmental friendliness.

Back in 2019, the brand introduced its global electrification strategy known as 'Lexus Electrified', with the all-electric UX 300e being the first production model launched under the banner. Now, in 2022, Lexus has released fresh image and video material of its next generation battery-powered sports car, that is set to be launched in 2030.

As one can see from the preliminary images, the sports car follows a sleek design coupled with a low ride height - similar to that of the LFA, that first debuted in 2010. There is little to know so far in terms of performance - though the automaker says it will sprint from 0-100km/h in the low two-second range, while driving range will likely exceed the 700km mark.

In case you're a bit hazy about specific concerning the LFA, it came from the factory with a hand-built aspirated 4.8-litre V10 engine that generated maximum outputs of 412kW and 480Nm. It also accelerated from 0-100km/h in a blistering 3.7-seconds and ran to a top speed of 325km/h.

Such is the urgency of EV production, Lexus plans to introduce 20 new vehicle models including BEVs, PHEVs, HEVs, and other electric vehicles, and develop a diverse product lineup by 2025. By 2050, the brand aims to achieve carbon neutrality throughout its model lineup – from the manufacturing of materials, parts and vehicles, to vehicle logistics, to the final disposal and recycling of older vehicles.

Lexus says: "We will deliver a unique electrified Lexus that combines linear motor acceleration/deceleration, brake feeling and exhilarating handling to further pursue the joy of driving. In particular, we believe that the Battery EV will become the future symbol of Lexus as a model that most clearly expresses the evolution of the automobile brought about by electrification."
