Nissan GT-R - priced from R2.5-million
Most Nissan's aren't known for looking good in red but the exception comes with their flagship performance car - the GT-R. The model's Vibrant Red exterior colour brings out other features even more like the double ring rear lights and upgraded front facia. The GT-R is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre engine with figures of 408kW and 632Nm.
Ferrari 458 - priced from R2.8-million
Because red is Ferrari's flagship colour, any model would've been suffice to use here - eventually the 458 Italia was settled on. Unlike all the other models on the list, its 4.5-litre engine is found behind the driver's seat - boasting maximum figures of 419kW and 540Nm. Just about any Ferrari will turn heads, not only because of the sound but also the red that catches the eye.
Mazda MX-5 - priced from R130 000
Even though it's no longer as brand-new in South Africa, the MX-5 is hailed by many as the perfect drivers car with its distribution of acceleration and weight. An MX-5 is almost unrecognisable if not coated in its traditional Metallic Red body colour. The latest generation was powered by the previously used aspirated 2.0-litre engine with figures of 118kW and 200Nm.
Hyundai Kona N line - priced from R585 900
There had to be atleast one SUV option on the list, right? I had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the refreshed Kona in N line trim and if money was in unlimited supply, a Kona in Pulse Red is a non-negotiable pick. The stoutly-built Kona is one of seven SUV options on offer by the Korean brand. In terms of power, it makes use of a 1.6 T-GDi engine with figures of 146kW and 265Nm.
Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI - priced from R682 700
There was no way that South Africa's favourite hatchback would not be included on this list. The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI launched locally last year and besides it being fast - its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine pushes out 180kW and 370Nm - it looks devilishly good in red - Kings Red, to be exact.
