Peugeot Folding Bicycle

This Peugeot folding bicycle (model F13 in the Peugeot range, also marketed as the "weekender" by Peugeot) was bought around 1975 at a main Peugeot (car) dealer in Johannesburg. This was at the peak of the bicycle boom when bicycle sales doubled between 1971 and 1975 in t he USA. In the spirit of this surge in interest in bicycles, Peugeot thought it would be a good idea to sell their folding bike, the ideal city bike, alongside the much-loved 504 in some of their dealerships.

The Peugeot folding bike is well thought-out, with the frame being essentially U-shaped, and splitting at the bottom of the U. In the Peugeot tradition (of those days, anyway) the bike is quite sturdy, and its weight attests to this. Whitewall tyres for the bike are still freely available in local bicycle shops.

The bike comes with its original, rather quaint instruction booklet, a vintage item in its own right.
