A well-established Chemical Manufacturing company based in Blackheath, Cape Town is in need of a senior Buyer with import experience

Job Summary

The Import Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating the importation of brooms, mop cloths, cleaning equipment and raw materials, chemicals, and related products required for manufacturing and operations. This role ensures cost-effective procurement, compliance with international trade regulations, and uninterrupted supply while maintaining strong supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and procure imported accessories, chemicals, raw materials, and packaging in line with production requirements
• Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with international suppliers on pricing, quality, delivery terms, and contracts
• Prepare and manage purchase orders, import documentation, and shipping schedules
• Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs clearing agents, and logistics providers
• Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements, and chemical regulations (e.g. MSDS, REACH, GHS, local regulatory standards)
• Monitor shipment progress, resolve delays, shortages, or quality issues
• Maintain optimal inventory levels and support production planning
• Conduct cost analysis and implement cost-saving initiatives
• Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier performance data
• Collaborate with Quality, Production, Finance, and HSE teams
• Stay informed on market trends, exchange rates, and supply chain risks

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Chemistry, or related field
• 3–5 years’ experience in import buying or procurement, preferably within the chemical or manufacturing industry.
• Strong understanding of international trade terms (Incoterms), customs procedures, and import regulations
• Knowledge of chemical sourcing, safety data sheets, and regulatory compliance
• Experience working with ERP or procurement systems
