Knobs with 8-32 thread are for Switchcraft toggle switches,

standard in Gibson® and other American guitars.

Metric knobs with M4 thread are for metric toggle switches,

popular in guitars made outside the USA (most Asian made switches)

M3.5 thread knobs are for modern Epiphone switches and some other Asian made switches.
