THE QUINTESSENTIAL KAROO FARM
At ± 6,020 ha this farm is a viable economic unit.The veld is in pristine condition & due to years of careful management an astounding diversity of flora is evident. A good distance from town, with no thoroughfares or adjoining public roads, this is a secure property ideal for livestock farming, eco-tourism, game or hunting.
LOCATION: ± 50 km from town
ANNUAL RAINFALL: ± 350 mm
TOPOGRAPHY: In the north open plains at ± 750 m ASL intersected by north-easterly flowing Camdeboo River tributaries & leegtes with a few low dolerite-strewn rante. In the centre deep valleys & peaks at ± 1100 m ASL. To the south peninsulas & slopes intrude onto apron-veld with sandy loam & sandstone shales at ± 750 - 880 m ASL.
VEGETATION: In the north there is sweet & productive lambing veld with dwarf & succulent shrubs, legumes, Boknoors, Cross Berry, with Sweet Thorn & larger shrubs along the water courses. A good grass cover of Red Buffalo interspersed with Steekgras & stands of Blue Buffalo in the leegtes. In the centre typical thicket with taller shrubs & succulent shrubs incl. Spekboom, Spike-thorn, Cross Berry, Num-num, Bluebush, Guarri, & Jacket Plum etc. Grasses incl. Klipgras, Speargrass, Kweek, & Red grass. Dwarf shrubs incl. Kapokbos, Wild Pomegranate, & Wilde Aster. The southern apron-veld is dominated by Spekboom with grass interspersed between the thicket. One north-west facing slope contains pristine & mature Albany Thicket infiltrated by an astounding number of young spekboom & Red Grass.
INFRASTRUCTURE: An extensive system of 115 camps (av size - 52 ha) with 2 wagon-wheels and 6 multi-camp cells. The fencing is in a reasonable to good state of repair. Stock handling facilities include a cattle kraal with a neck clamp, & sheep kraals. Facilities in the veld include 5 goat sheds, 2 large cattle kraals, 3 large & 3 small sheep kraals.
WATER SUPPLY: 5 windmills, 1 borehole with Lister, & 5 boreholes with solar. A new borehole tested to 9000 gal / hour for 7 hrs & with 2 other unutilsed boreholes holds potential for irrigation.
BUILDINGS: The gracious homestead has a lounge, dining room, kitchen, pantry, office, gun-room, sewing room, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms & is set in a large garden with swimming pool. A nearby cottage has 3 bedrooms & 1 bathroom. Both buildings have a veranda & attractive Victorian features & Oregon floors.
