LOCATION: ± 10 km from Graaff-Reinet.

TOPOGRAPHY: Flat land situated within a horseshoe on the lower bank of the Sunday’s River south of the Camdeboo National Park. Altitude is ± 703 – 708 m above sea level.

WATER SUPPLY: Two boreholes fitted with submersible pumps and water ionisers provide sufficient water for the centre-pivot irrigation which requires ± 30,000 litres of water per hour. (3 x 57.6 m + 1 x 26 m) The lucerne was planted 2 ½ years ago and is cut 6 times in the summer months averaging 1,500 to 1,800 square bales per cutting. An additional cutting during winter yields ± 600 bales. Crop production can be increased by developing Permaset or drip irrigation in 5 ha of land surrounding the pivot which has already been cleared and ploughed. Alternatively this land could be developed and utilised for intensive animal or poultry husbandry.

INFRASTRUCTURE: The perimeter of the property is enclosed by a 2.2 m high galvanised netting fence topped with barbed wire. At the entrance there is a secure sliding steel gate.

BUILDINGS: The newly constructed manager’s cottage consists of 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen and living room, with a veranda and undercover braai. A rudimentary 225 m² corrugated-iron shed provides storage for lucerne bales, implements, and vehicles.

POWER SUPPLY: Municipal electricity is supplied by two power points. The combined electricity bill currently amounts to ± R 7,000 per month.
