This 4,624-hectare farm is situated between Calvinia and the quaint town of Loeriesfontein, an area well-known for the production of quality mutton, as well as the production of wool.
The farm lies in a predominantly winter rainfall area with occasional thunderstorms in summer. After good winter rains the veldt erupts into a hotspot of beautiful flowers and bulbs, carpeting vast areas in brilliant colours. The mountainous areas to the North of the farm are exceptional quality veldt and in pristine condition. Due to the 947-metre-high elevation, these mountainous areas enjoy a higher rainfall than the Niewoudtville escarpment. The house is situated at 562-metre above sea level.
Natural grazing consists of palatable shrubs and nutritious succulents which bloom after good winter rains. On some of the hills you will find the quiver tree which is probably the most spectacular aloe species to be found in South Africa, due to its sculptural form.
Ample water for about 27-hectare gravity flood irrigation is available from 3 earth dams that fill after good rains. This acreage is contoured and ready for planting. Lucerne and winter grains for fodder do well in this dry climate. The previous owner planted up to 90-hectares of lucerne.
A perennial fountain and 5 windmills supply drinking water for the livestock. Various 4x4 tracks will take you to the highest outer reaches of the farm.
The perimeter fencing is mostly jackal-proof (90%) and the farm`s total acreage is well-planned and sub-divided into various inner camps. The carrying capacity is 1:30 LSU.
