A special ambience is also created by the vast low-lying flood plains (vloed leegtes) covered with savannah grasses. After good rains in the mountains upstream, some of the rivers spread widely, forming floodplains which provide an abundance of quality grass vegetation for various game species to graze on. These floodplains further increase the carrying capacity of the farm!

There is a diversity of vegetation with patches of grass, shrubs, bushes with denser riverine thicket and tall trees along the banks of the dry rivers. Due to this balanced habitat system, there is a perfect balance in terms of a diversity of naturally available food for both browsers and grazers. Kudu and Eland heaven! Blue buffalo grass (Cenchrus cilliaris), regarded as one of the best pasture species to adapt to dry and wet conditions, is a perennial grass that grows in dense, messy looking clumps. This palatable grass with its high nutritive value, together with other grasses, flourish on the reserve.
