Have you ever thought back and regretted selling a particular vehicle that can most likely never be replaced. Well, I'm going to regret this one. I took over the care of my Dad's Disco1 300 Tdi 1998. It's a 3 door.

I'm a motor mechanic with a few decades of working on vehicles but made a career change and I've been working on super yachts for the last few years. This does not allow me the time to enjoy the disco for its intended purpose, and I'd like to see it go to someone who can. It will be sold with the roof rack, rooftop tent, side awning and double jerry can holder. Below is a list of repairs and maintenance that I've done to it over the last few years.

Engine oil, air and fuel filter changes every 10 000km

Diesel injectors serviced by DUP diesel in Cape Town.

New Glow Plugs.

Steering Box overhauled by Roy's Power Steering in Cape Town.

Gearbox partially overhauled by Auto gear in Strand.

Transfer Case Overhauled by AutoWorx in Van Der Bijl. Jhburg.

Front axle hub seals and side shaft seals renewed, and wheel bearings regreased.

Front Axle Diff pinion seal renewed.

All gear oils renewed.

The brake fluid has been flushed.

Rear drive shaft universal joints renewed.

The fan belt broke while my wife was driving it, and it had a mild overheat.

I removed the cylinder head, skimmed the head, re-seated the valves and renewed the gasket and bolts.

While the engine front cover was off for this, I renewed the cam belt, tensioner, idler pulley and also the front crank seal.

V belts have been replaced as required.

New water pump and anti-freeze.

New indicator lights in the front bumper.

I found a good replacement for the left headlight as the reflective surface had lost its shine.

All the side windows and the rear window have a tinted film that is also an anti-theft feature for smash and grab protection.

There was some rust starting in the A-Pillars, the panel shop removed the front windscreen, cut out the rust and welded in new steel.

While they had the vehicle, I had them install the snorkel.

A new ignition switch has been installed.

I also had the central locking repaired; however, the tailgate needs some adjustment as it sometimes does not close the switch, and the central locking will then not lock that door.

I installed the digital clock and multi-USB panel that I got from Brit Part, UK.

I also have the Turbo Core, Turbo Boost Controller and Tdi Tuning package from Brit Part, but have not had the opportunity to install these.

There is a small amount of rust at the bottom of the left side safari window, and the interior fan sometimes stops working, I just cycle it off and on again and it works for ages again.

The AC works perfectly.

So, if you are looking for a very good base to start your overlanding or off-roading adventures with, then this is a good vehicle for that.

I'll never get back what I spent on it, my asking price is R80 000.
