The Silence Over Cape Town

Between January and February 2026, thousands of pied crows vanished from the Cape Peninsula. Not reduced. Not scattered. Gone. No bodies. No warning. No official report.

The affected area spans the entire peninsula — Constantia, Hout Bay, Kenilworth, Claremont, Plumstead, Kirstenbosch, Noordhoek — all reporting the same absence. The same birds are simultaneously confirmed present and actively predating blue crane eggs in the Overberg and Swartland wheatlands to the east and north.
