The notice at the back of each of the paintings is as follows: "Pompeii From original - copied on spot by Fenderico a moder day Italian Artist at house of the Vettii (Donus Vettorum) so called because the two proprietors were Aulus Vettius Restitutus & Aulus Vettius Conviva Two Rich Merchants. These friezes adorning the house of the Vettii represent amorina (cupids) engaged in various acts and occupations of daily life.
Actually destroyed in August 79 AD when the final catastrophe overtook Pompeii. Unearthed in 1895 - after nearly 2000 years. These friezes are still in a wonderful state of preservation."
