A rare and valuable item that was made to celebrate the Great Exhibition of 1851, which was the first world’s fair and showcased the works of industry and art from all nations. The medallion features a profile of Prince Albert, who was the main patron and organizer of the exhibition, on one side, and a view of the Crystal Palace, which was the remarkable building that housed the exhibition, on the other side. The medallion also has some details about the dimensions, cost, and area of the Crystal Palace. The medallion was designed by William Wyon, who was the chief engraver of the Royal Mint and a renowned medalist. The medallion is made of brass and has a diameter of 8 cm. The Great Exhibition was a monumental event that displayed the achievements of science, technology, design, and culture from around the world. It attracted more than six million visitors and generated a surplus fund that was used to establish several museums and institutions in London, such as the Science Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Royal Albert Hall.
