Senior Consultant (Contaminated Land/ Geochemistry

Job Description:

The candidate will be required to ensure technical delivery of projects, including risk and quality management. The candidate should have experience in development of technical documents (reports) for clients throughout various project execution phases (pre-feasibility, feasibility, site assessment, remediation, and decommissioning/closure).

The candidate is expected to maintain, build, and further develop client relationships as part of project delivery and business development. As such, the candidate is expected to:

• Create own work.
• Be approached directly by previous clients to accept new projects.
• Begin developing a client base of their own and strive to create enough work to keep themselves and juniors busy.

The candidate should have experience in managing and executing projects in South Africa and elsewhere.


Core Functions:

• Manage contamination/remediation and geochemistry projects
• Compile proposals and reports
• Coordinate project schedules
• Independently undertake site assessments/field work
• Manage budgets
• Appoint and manage sub-contractors
• Develop and sustain new business and client relationships and
• Supervise and mentor junior colleagues.

Competencies and Characteristics:

• Excellent land contamination/geology/chemistry/industrial waste & mine residue characterisation and management/pollution source identification and control knowledge
• Excellent core logging and sampling skills (soil and groundwater)
• Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment
• Self-starter and committed team player
• Demonstrate growing ability to create new work for self and others
• Be alert to market developments and opportunity for new work
• Excellent reporting, communication and presentation skills and
• Analytical and integrative skills across diverse sectors.

Qualifications:

• Honours or higher in Geology or Environmental Geology or Hydrogeology or Chemistry or Geochemistry or higher / other relevant degree
• Pr.Sci.Nat Registration
• 8 to 12 years relevant experience
• Valid drivers licence and own transport and
• Willingness to travel within and outside South Africa.
