This Peugeot folding bicycle (model F13 in the Peugeot range, also marketed as the "weekender" by Peugeot) was bought around 1975 at a main Peugeot (car) dealer in Johannesburg. This was at the peak of the bicycle boom when bicycle sales doubled between 1971 and 1975 in t he USA. In the spirit of this surge in interest in bicycles, Peugeot thought it would be a good idea to sell their folding bike, the ideal city bike, alongside the much-loved 504 in some of their dealerships. The Peugeot folding bike is well thought-out, with the frame being essentially U-shaped, and splitting at the bottom of the U. In the Peugeot tradition (of those days, anyway) the bike is quite sturdy, and its weight attests to this. Whitewall tyres for the bike are still freely available in local bicycle shops. The bike comes with its original, rather quaint instruction booklet, a vintage item in its own right.

This wine rack was bought some 20 years ago, but for various reasons it has never been used. It was bought on the understanding that it was made of sleeper wood, and the weight of the item would confirm that. It is a beautiful piece of wooden art. "A thing of beauty is a joy forever". Even more so if it serves a useful purpose.

This wardrobe dates back to around 1945. It needs some TLC, but it has huge potential.

This is an American-made Philco frost-free refrigerator/freezer that was bought new in 1975 in Pretoria. Philco was Ford's appliance division, competing with GM's Frigidaire and Nash's Kelvinator. The fridge is in good condition over all, with shelving intact and very little rust. The electrical components all run on 120 volt, as is the norm in the USA. To adapt them for the SA market, a substantial 220-to-120 volt transformer was fitted at the bottom rear. The fridge stopped working when (I suspect) the freezer fan's motor packed up. This happened once before, many years ago. At the time I could source a 120 volt motor locally. After fitting that, the fridge performed flawlessly again until a couple of years ago when it again stopped working. This time I could not find a replacement fan motor in Cape Town. (I probably didn't search hard enough.) I had visions of finding a fan motor on eBay, but other work overtook me. I have now decided to rather sell it to somebody who has the time to fix it. I firmly believe it is fixable and it will then again be a spacious, dependable, sturdy fridge with an indestructible American heart.

For sale are two wall light fittings. These are unique, very striking, very artistic fittings made by a firm of glassblowers in Israel. They were purchased at the Rand Easter Show around 1976, where the company had an exhibit. For various reasons they have never been put up. The globes have been replaced with LED globes in preparation for advertising the fittings. The fittings consist of substantial, semi-cylindrical pieces of sculptured glass on a metal frame, each accommodating two globes. The fittings are identical, except for the colour pattern in the glass which differs because the glassblowing was done by hand. These fittings will make a unique and eye-catching feature in any home or office. I, personally, have never seen anything like that in a room or foyer.Buyer will have to collect from Brackenfell. The risk of damage is too great for postal or courier services.
