Location, Location, Location; one of the best spots for an apartment in Cape Town is the 2-bedroom Rockefellers - 106 Rockwell Apartment Hotel. It’s in the heart of the De Waterkant, Greenpoint shopping and restaurant district - full of life day and evening. The fabulously chic Cape Quarter lifestyle precinct and trendy, gay-friendly cobbled streets of De Waterkant are a mere stone’s throw from the Rockwell Apartment Hotel, which is tucked down a leafy side street. It’s a very desirable area of Cape Town with very high priced residential properties, so enjoy your time here in the most sought after part of the city. From your huge balcony, there is an eye-blasting view of Table Mountain’s flat top while in the foreground are new and historic city buildings and a school playground. While you do have your own dedicated parking inside the building, it’s an easy walk from Rockefellers Apartment to see the sights. In just 5 minutes’ walk you will reach a host of local restaurants, cafés, nightclubs and bars and in 10-15 minutes you’ll get to V&A Waterfront, Cape Town Stadium, Bo-Kaap Malay Quarter, central business district, Cape Town International Convention Centre, Greenmarket Square, Bree Street and Long Street known for specialist eateries and quirky shops. You’ll need a car to reach Table Mountain cableway (5½km uphill) and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Constantia Winelands, Seapoint Promenade and Camps Bay and Clifton Beaches. It’s a day trip along Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope, Simon’s Town and Boulders Penguins. The family-friendly beaches of False Bay are really worth a visit and while you are at it, the quirky coastal towns of Kalk Bay and Muizenberg. There’s so much to do that you’d better book at least a week’s holiday in Cape Town! You are going to love coming home to Rockefellers Apartment with its two well-sized bedrooms (king and twin beds) each with a bathroom (with shower or bath), fully equipped kitchen with black granite worktops, café-style table and washing machine. Right across the corridor from your front door is the gym overlooking an indoor lap-pool. But you may not need to keep yourself fit in this way when there are plenty of hills to climb, oceans to swim and promenades to jog.Your access disc enables entry into the building and the lifts won’t work without swiping this, so security is excellent. have found this book to be very enjoyable, but it should in no way be considered light reading. There are many famous and infamous women and men portrayed, the most notable of whom include Plato, Alexander the Great, Da Vinci, Byron, Tchaikovsky, Gertrude Stein, Bessie Smith, Tennessee Williams, Andy Warhol, Rudolf Nureyev and 36 others. Tom Cowan does a wonderful job of removing these characters from their history books and humanizing them. In many instances these are people my friends and I learned about in school and often the exclamation "S/He was gay? You're kidding me! I never knew that!" is heard from them in reference to this book. It can also be a wonderful tool in the right cases, (i.e. providing a different perspective perfect for a paper or a hero for a child) often shedding new insight into the lives of these truly great people. As Cowan states in the introduction, "Confronting and accepting the value of one's gay identity, in spite of the efforts of society to deny the worth of gay people, can provide the basis for the strength and self-confidence needed to leave one's personal mark on the world." I consider myself to be a person who has great plans to leave a mark of my own before I go and as such I find this book to be a most wonderful collection of role models in whose footsteps I may one day follow.
