Virtually all of the teaching jobs available in the Western Cape are matric jobs, which is understandable. There are however a few exceptions, but very few.
Available No Matric Jobs
Quite often you will find a need for a tutor, where the individual does not require a matric to apply. These are normally instances in which an individual requires tutoring in a specific subject or area but does not require the services of a professional educator. Such jobs tend to be part time and of short duration.
The Distinction Between No Matric and Non-Matric
A non-matric teaching position would be one that could be filled by someone who has not matriculated from a South African school but whose education is equivalent. These are generally people who have received their education in another country and have the equivalent of 12 years or more of formal education. A non-South African who has a graduate or teaching degree from another country may be in a position to apply for a teaching job in the Western Cape, whether that position is at the pre-school level or at the university level.
Teaching Jobs in the Western Cape
There are presently a number of better teaching jobs open in the Western Cape area. Some administrative positions, including positions at a director or directress level, are generally available within the educational system. Most openings are in the area of general instruction although there are always a number of openings in the more highly specialised areas of education and learning. There are quite often openings available for those interested in FET Science, the physical sciences, or the life sciences. Positions such as those generally involve giving instruction and training to small, select groups. A few teaching assistant positions are also normally available.
Many of the teaching positions open in the Western Cape require having a particular skill set, combined with having a general background in education coupled with an appropriate amount of experience, although general teaching positions are generally available. The fact that an applicant has a matric is generally assumed, although an occasional no matric tutorial position is sometimes available.
