Stellenbosch is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The town has a long and complex history, which is reflected in the Georgian, Victorian, and neo-Dutch architecture of its buildings. Amongst South Africans, the town is highly regarded as a welcoming, friendly place, with fine architecture, intriguing museums, and an excellent nightlife. It's also home to the renowned Stellenbosch University, as well as a great number of retail and banking giants. All of these elements combine to make Stellenbosch a fine place to live, study, and work.

If you wish to visit Stellenbosch as a tourist, there are few better places for sightseeing, hiking, wine tasting, and fine dining. The numerous vineyards in the area export wine across the world. Brandy, another of South Africa's most popular exports, is distilled in many of the cellars around Stellenbosch. If you are more inclined towards healthy pursuits when on holiday, there is plenty to cater to your tastes. You can walk the picturesque foothills that surround the town, visit a number of great museums and galleries, and then finish the day at one of the many health resorts or spas located in the town.

Visiting Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is easily accessible, and is just over 35 kilometres east of Cape Town. An excellent public transport network links most of the major points of interest within the Stellenbosch region. Both the N1 and N2 National Roads provide convenient links to Stellenbosch if you wish to drive to the town, and many coach companies drive direct to the area. If you live further afield, many local and international airlines fly to South Africa's Cape Town International, O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, and King Shaka International Airport in Durban.
