Nissan Navara

The Nissan Navara line consists of both the D22 and D40 versions of the Nissan bakkie that is sold in Asia. In the Americas the model is known as the Nissan Frontier, and in South Africa it is called the Hardbody or J24. The Nissan Navara has been produced since 1997, although production of the D22 Frontier version ceased in 2000.

You should be able to purchase a used Nissan Navara from a dealer or a personal seller. A secondhand Nissan Navara can retail anywhere between 150 000 ZAR and 450 000 ZAR depending on the age and condition of the vehicle.

The Nissan Navara D22 Series

The Nissan Navara D22 model was first produced in 1997 as a replacement for the Nissan Hardbody truck. It was named in reference to the Navarre region of Northern Spain with the European version of the Navara being built in Barcelona. The first models had a 4-cylindre engine, but models from 1999 came with the option of a V6 engine. Furthermore, in February 2003 4x4 models came with a powerful 3,3-litre V6 engine with a 5-speed transmission. The V6 version was dropped in 2005, leaving the 2,5-litre turbo diesel version as the only engine that was available. The D22 is also known as the Nissan Datsun, Fiera, Terrano, and Winner.

The Nissan Navara D40 Series

Introduced in 2004, the Nissan Navara D40 is a mid-sized version of the Navara as opposed to the compact D22 model. The standard engine is the VQ40DE, which is a 4,0-litre V6 engine, giving the Navara D40 261 horsepower, plenty of torque, and a towing capacity of 2 950 kilogrammes. A six-speed transmission is standard, although there is the option of a five-speed automatic gearbox. The bakkie is available in both rear and four-wheel drive formats, and traction control and hill-descent are additional options. Between 2009 and 2010 the Navara was somewhat redesigned with subtle changes to the headlights and bonnet and better materials for the dash, seats, and interior.

The Nissan Navara is a spacious and comfortable bakkie with significant loading capacity, power, and composed road handling. There are many variations and features of the Nissan Navara series that make it a great contender for leadership in the world of bakkies.
