Language Courses and Training

Learning a foreign language can be extremely beneficial. If you enjoy travelling, you may find it helpful to learn the local language of your destination, as you will be able to communicate much easier. People who speak a second language can also make attractive job candidates, especially if that language is in demand in the workplace. If you want to work for a company that does a lot of business in Germany, for example, it can come in handy to speak German. Learning a language on your own can be tough, but luckily, there are language courses and training opportunities available all over South Africa. Three popular options are widely available: language classes, private tutors, and language exchanges.

Language Classes

Classes are popular with many language students. They provide lots of motivation, as most teachers use group participation and homework as tools in their classrooms. The group dynamic also helps many students learn from each other and is often very encouraging. There are a variety of language classes available in South Africa, from Portuguese to Chinese.

Foreign Language Tutors

If you are more of an independent learner or the idea of speaking another language around other people intimidates you, you may want to consider hiring a private tutor. Tutors work with you on a one-on-one basis to guide you as you learn the language. As you do not have to work around a class schedule, this can also be helpful if you are busy. A tutor can meet you at your home or office and can work around your schedule.

Language Exchange

Language exchanges provide language training on an informal basis. Instead of hiring a private tutor to provide professional instruction, you meet with a native speaker and 'trade' your language for theirs. There are also bilingual groups and events where native speakers and people wanting to learn a specific language can mingle.

Although learning a new language can be challenging, there is lots of help available. You can find language classes, tutors, language exchanges, groups, and bilingual events all over South Africa in your local listings. Browse through your options to see what is available near you.
