General jobs

If you are in need of work and don't have specialised skills or education, you can find general jobs in South Africa. Some general jobs require a matric, such as security guard positions. However, other general jobs like housekeepers and maids do not require a matric. Check you local area for jobs that fit your needs and find employment that will help support you and your family. Often, how you go about looking for a job will determine whether or not you get it, even if it is a general position and not a professional one. Put these tips to work on your next job hunt and become successfully employed.

Applying

If you find a position that you want to apply for, make sure to read the requirements. Some jobs specifically ask for a resume and some simply have an application. If you need a resume, have a friend help prepare one. You can use a simple word processing program and templates available online to put together a brief overview of your work history and skills. Make sure you spell check everything, as nothing stands out worse than misspelled words.

Interview

If you get an interview for a general job, treat it just as important as an interview for a highly paid professional position. Make sure you are dressed well, all the way down to making sure your shoes are clean. Looking your best is often an important part of landing a job, sometime just as important as your skills. Make sure you arrive on time for the interview and have studied a little bit about the company so that you are able to converse a little about it during the interview. This shows you have an interest in the job and company.

Follow Up

Follow up after an interview is just as important for a general job as it is a professional position. A brief thank you note, email, or call thanking the company for their time can be the catalyst that helps you get the job. If you don't get the job, it will make your memorable and should a position come up, you may be called.

General jobs in South Africa offer excellent employment opportunities for people who have not had the opportunity to obtain a college education. These positions are an important part of society and also provide gainful employment and a means of support for families.
