Although the name was used on a variety of automobiles produced by Ford Motors, the Ford Courier is generally synonymous with the Mazda B-Series, a mini pick-up truck manufactured by Mazda in the 1970s. Even when you check your local listings for secondhand Ford Couriers for sale, you will only see these compact pick-ups. The Couriers were iconic because they were Ford's answer to Toyota and Nissan's pick-ups.
Engine and Transmission
The Ford Courier was the Mazda B-Series in Japan with different frontal styling, which was modified by Ford to look like the larger F-series. The first of these vehicles featured a sub 2-litre engine, rear wheel drive, and manual transmission. Later models of the Ford Courier feature larger V6 engines, which are either petrol or turbocharged diesel engines. You can also choose between five-speed manual transmissions and four-speed automatic on some two-wheel drive models.
Design and Model
The Ford Courier has undergone a series of makeovers throughout the years to make it more muscular like the F-Series. It also expanded to 20 different models, which include a two-wheel drive Crew Cab XLT and four-wheel drive Super Cab XLT. All models have the standard headlights, grille, and front bumper bar and guards. However, the higher-level XLT model is fitted with chrome rear and front bumper bars. It also has large wheel arch flares that complement its larger tyres.
Used Ford Couriers which belong to the later models are soundproof to reduce interior noise. They are also fitted with anti-lock breaks for effective stopping power, a double wishbone suspension for efficient and comfortable driving even on rough roads, and a rear leaf spring to better absorb load quantity. The higher-end Ford Courier XLT features remote central locking, limited slip differential, and engine immobiliser features. It is also fitted with electric windows and an alarm system.
The Ford Courier is a mid-size but powerful and efficient pick-up truck. You can find different used Ford Courier models in South Africa which are still in good running condition. Prices can begin from R50 000 or more. You can also find bargain prices on used vehicles needing some repair.
