COLESBERG: Unique Farming Enterprise with an abundance of irrigation water

Situated in the midst of some of Colesberg`s best livestock farms, this particular 854-hectare exciting and excellent economic viable farming enterprise has come available. It lies between Colesberg and Steynsburg and all the necessary infrastructure for a stock farm is in place.
Very few Karoo farms come close to the tranquillity and scenic setting of this farm. This pristine region welcomes true livestock and/or game farmers, or nature lovers with farming experience.

This farm offers a diverse typographical outlay of mountains, undulating hills, sweet grass plateaus, and valleys, with 50% of the acreage being flat land, as well as a perennial river which traverses the farm. Other rivers flow strongly after normal rainfall in the mountains. This supports the diversity of vegetation with patches of grass, palatable shrubs, denser riverine thicket, fluitjies reed and taller bushes and trees. The entire perimeter fencing is jackal-proof and is in good repair. At present the farming operation consists of Merino sheep and cattle. Naturally occurring game includes kudu and mountain reed buck and there are also springbuck, blesbuck, and ostriches.

The vegetation on the plains incudes typical Karoo shrubs, with various sweet grasses while the plateaus on the mountains are covered in quality red grass (Themeda Triandra) and various other sweet grasses, due to the higher rainfall in the higher lying areas.
The slopes and valleys are covered in prevalent wild olive (Olienhout), Karee (Karee) and sweet Acacia (Akasia) trees with thicket and taller shrubs.

The lower lying flood plains [leegtes] on the farms which flooded after good rains are increasing the carrying capacity substantially. This farm lends itself to the production of superb quality wool and meat.
The average annual rainfall is 416 mm. The carrying capacity is 1:16 LSU (Lange stock Units) and can comfortably carry livestock like cattle, sheep, angoras, and goats, and it is also ideal for game farming.

A 25-hectare area is planted with lucerne, mixed-grass pastures and winter oats as fodder for grazing. The carrying capacity on the irrigation areas is 1 hectare for 25 small stock. This increases the total carrying capacity of the farm substantially.

However, what sets this farming enterprise apart in terms of the availability of abundance of irrigation, are the numerous natural springs and the perennial river on the property.
