Description

Our client is looking for a Junior Associate in Commercial Litigation to join their dynamic team in Pretoria

Qualifications:
Law degree
Admitted as an Attorney
Computer Skills:
MS Office, with specific reference to Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
AJS or similar bookkeeping system
Experience:
Post articles Experience: 2 years
Commercial Litigation, research & drafting.
Experience in Tax-related and State-Owned Enterprises Litigation will be advantageous
Job requirement:
Arranging for urgent services of legal documents and follow up telephonically
Liaising with clients, counsel, and sheriffs, organizing consultations, and attending to queries from clients and other attorneys
Instruct and manage counsel and experts
Prepare pleadings and draft affidavits to be settled by counsel, or provides appropriate comment on drafts prepared for counsel
Analyze documentation and instructions and prepare legal advise
Assist in the mentorship and development of junior professionals and support
Keep up to date with new legislation, case law, and amendments to the Rules of Court and Practice Directives
Provide input on heads of argument and ensure that same is timeously filed
Prepare matters properly for trial/hearing, including gathering evidence, arranging consultations and organizing pleadings, and ensuring that all requirements are complied with
Prepare litigation strategies
Managing client relationships
Drafting clear and concise documents - contracts and opinions
Properly researching all relevant legal aspects covered and referred to in the documents
Utilizing appropriate technological tools and software for research as applicable
Properly considering facts of each instruction and converting facts into a written document
Fully addressing all aspects required to be considered by the client
Complying with prescribed procedures, formats, and documentation
Properly using precedent documents Producing documents that are generally suitable as a basis for the instruction received, and requires moderate input from the supervisor
Displaying a clear understanding of legal principles applicable and how that will affect the documentation from the client’s perspective
Provide accurate advice to clients, with moderate input from supervisor Has required knowledge of applicable legal principles as substantive law
Follows and participates in consultations and negotiations and is able to correctly identify material issues discussed and implement into documents required, or advice sought
Diarising files Following up on all issues requiring attention
Showing ability to manage workload and practice
Capturing time accurately and timeously
Minimizing unrecoverable expenses
Regular reporting to clients
Following up on information required from clientSupervising performance of support staff and ensuring the firm''s standards are achieved
